Greek Mountain tea
( Sideritis raeseri
Boiss. & Heldr.)
Preparation
Greek Mountain tea is most often used to prepare a delicious beverage. It is frequently flavored with honey, cinnamon, or lemon, but apples, oranges, and other fruits also work well. The main difference from regular tea is that it contains no caffeine and therefore has no stimulating effect. It can even be drunk before bed. Besides beverages, Greek tea can also be poured over various dishes such as fish or potatoes, or used as a marinade.
Traditional characteristics
Traditionally, Greek tea is primarily consumed during the winter months to alleviate colds, gastrointestinal issues, and upper respiratory tract infections. It possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and relaxing properties. Thanks to its flavonoid content, it can strengthen the cardiovascular system. Furthermore, recent studies in Greece and Germany suggest that it may regenerate brain cells and thus have a preventative effect against Alzheimer's disease.
